I Find Joy in Savoy!

So boom! This past Saturday’s wedding was a 9 hour workday at Perry Lane Hotel. This beautiful hotel is located in the heart of downtown Savannah. The North tower rooftop houses the amazing Peregrin Rooftop Bar. Their summer slushies are a basic necessity to beat Savannah’s summer heat. It’s also a great spot to be at for sunset! I’ll come back later to talk about the greatness of this place! Anyhoo! For dinner, my pescatarian meal translated into a Vegetarian with a nice tasty, yet greasy, plate of gnocchi. I knew for sure that this would not stick long to my ribs. As I pumped the wedding crowd, I only had one thought on my mind: Savoy Society.

Savoy Society is located in the historical Drayton Tower in downtown Savannah. It’s a vibrant bar full of vibrant people. It definitely gives me NYC vibes with a cross pollination of southern flair that meets Vintage Miami. The first eye catching piece of the bar are the electric red cabinets.. As your eyes pan over, you see a menagerie of various spirits, fruit, books, and vinyl records. The records are another catchy part of Savoy. As one record stops it’s spin, the bartenders swap it out for another gem to keep the crowd happy. I’ve listened to Drake, David Bowie, Queen, and Lil Wayne. No genre is left behind! I should also mention that Savoy Society hosts Vinyl Appreciation Night on 4th Monday of every month if my memory serves me correctly. It’s a pretty cool eclectic night of audiophiles bringing their favorite vinyl to spin!

Now let’s move on to the furniture! It’s hardcore Golden Girls! It’s giving the best 80s Miami vibe one could imagine. Beautiful rattan furniture, with darling patterns, grace a more comfy space away from the bar. Their lush tropical plants near the furniture, hold many secrets of the guests who take up space. If they could only talk! In the corner near the bathrooms, and back exit, sits the floor model tv of your grandmother’s dreams. And it works! The functioning tv streams an aquarium for your drunken, viewing pleasure.

The crowd is a grab bag of awesomeness. This bar caters well to the newest millenial form of hippies. I truly believe any “hip” bar in Savannah does that naturally. I’ve also seen crowds of Savannah’s upper crust come in droves as they are leaving the cathedral from a Savannah Philharmonic concert. I’m usually popping in on Saturdays when my in-town weddings end early. One past wedding, I walked in to see many a folk dressed in elegant clothes. They all rounded up at Savoy for bevs after attending the Savannah Historic Foundation Gala. I ran into some friends I hadn’t seen in months and absorbed into the fold. What a time we had! I ended up walking ( I should say kidnapped) a few blocks down to a beautiful row home for an after-after party and singing Adele in the kitchen until 4am. Boy the stories I heard on this night.

I said all of this to say that Savoy is perfect for almost any palette. I give credit to their kick-ass fearless leader: Lady Jane Fishell. When I first met Jane, she was painting a mural on the wall at the soon to open Starland Yard. She has a magnetism that you can’t resist! And my God her fashion! It’s epic, it’s vintage, it’s Jane! She definitely poured herself into making this bar. I should also mention that she done a great deal of bar consulting for some of your favorite bars downtown as well. With all of her knowledge, and success of Savoy, she’s opened another bar in Habersham Village called Colleagues + Lovers. She provides the best atmosphere for her amazing staff! She has some of the best bartenders that Savannah has to offer. How do I know? Because I’ve followed them from their previous bars to here! Duh! If you’re ever in there and you hear a tambourine, it’s going down. All of the staff are about to take a shift shot. Their shots clink from the ground to the sky! It’s a beautiful moment.

After all of this banter, I’ve saved the two main ingredients for last: Food & Booze. Let me tell you that I’m hooked. Their food menu is the best. I’ve eaten nearly everything meat related on the menu. On Mondays they create a theme experience. For the past few months it’s been “Me Gusta Mondays”. This special menu serves various tacos, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, taquitos, and plates until they run out. Don’t worry! If it’s not your jam, the regular menu is still available. Their best marketing strategy is handwriting the menu for Me Gusta Mondays. I love it & I’m going to stick beside it. Venturing back to their main food items, there’s plenty to talk about. What I love the most are their sliders. At any point, if you see me at Savoy, you’re going to see me enjoying a Korean Meatball Slider, Spam Slider, and cheesy tots. Yes I said Spam! It’s absolutely delicious and non-struggle related. Another favorite of mine is the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl (no avocado..disgusting). This bowl has a kick and bang for the value. Like I said, the food is amazing and it’s offered late night.

After all of my fan-girling it’s time to get down to the cocktails. I’m a whiskey chick by nature. A great whiskey go to for me is “Shower Me in Luxury”. It’s a great blend of fruit, Angels Envy, and bubbles. It’s sweet and it packs a punch after a few! My favorite spiced rum drink is “Fleur Sauvage Sept”. Ingredients: Spiced Rum, Golden Milk, Honey, Amaro, Coconut. It’s literally a vacation in a glass. The presentation of the drinks are beautiful. My favorite part of the cocktail process is seeing how crafted these amazing bartenders are! I also admire their patience as on the weekends you can barely fit inside with all of the guests they attract. The servers, and runners, are the absolute best as well! Their eclectic apparel presents a great vibe of the true Savoy experience!

Wrapping up, Savoy Society embodies what Savannah is. It’s welcome to anyone and everyone. Being a lone wolf, I walk in alone and end up with family. Jane, thank you for all that you do! Shouts out to my luvvies there: Warren, Tart, Ashley, Kyle, Emaline, Gina, guy Laiken (It’s still weird having the same name of someone in town! He’s also musician!), and the rest of the staff! Now Enjoy some of my favorite pictures I’ve captured there!

Cheers!
